How to avoid beginner aquarium mistakes? - toponlinessells

Hello everyone on the toponlinessells blog, today we meet for a new topic on the 10 mistakes to avoid in aquariums, I hope you will like it.

My name is David and I work in aquarium design, and I realized when I was working at the store, that most of the time customers were with the same error, so here I made a little top 10 easily avoidable mistakes often made by beginners.

The goal here is to save you time, money, and frustration by not making these mistakes.

What is the fish aquarium water conditioner used for?

I created the first big mistake the one that annoys me the most is when a client finds me and says to me:

  • My water is good, I put product, so also it refers to the water conditioner.

The water conditioner removes everything that is chlorine, chloride gamide from tap water, so it removes these toxic elements, but that doesn't tell me anything about the hardnesses are good, so we're going to have a emotional shock, yes or no? we don't know, it depends on the fish we're going to put in the water, it depends on where it comes from, it depends on our water...

This aspect there and also the aspect, is what I also did in the area yes or no, most customers don't know that you have to do everything to adapt all that in advance, it's not their fault if it marked on the marketing of the packaged product makes the water perfect to introduce the fish to but it's not true.

The water conditioner only removes chlorine from tap water, it is largely insufficient to claim to have water adapted to the needs of fish simply.

How to choose the right droplets for aquarium?

The second big mistake that I often notice in aquariums is that they don't really test the water or they say only with strips since it's cheap, so they say to themselves: yes my water is OK, I looked at the settings. yes I have the small strip test... that's quite painful, because we obviously sold them the strip test and then afterwards we explain to them that it's not reliable.

The strip test gives us an overview of the parameters of the water, we know on the water if it is rather hard or rather soft, and we know whether or not there are a lot of pollutants in the water. .

the problem is that when we shake the strips in the water and pollutants change color, it means that we are already at a fairly advanced stage of pollution, so that a strip changes color in its parameters there, you must have already reached about 0.3 mg/l of nitrites, and as you know from 0.1 mg/l of these toxic substances.

Most of the time when you detect urges with a strip it's already too late, that's also a big mistake.

Which aquarium filter cartridge to choose?

The third error would be to buy the species of small filter with cartridges, the problem with that is obviously all the bacteria have colosseum the sponges which served as a basis for biological filtration, in addition to the rest obviously but the problem it is that when you throw that sponge in the trash to replace it with a new one, you've also thrown all your good bacteria out of the filter.

I find it quite badly done, this kind of filters since it is contrary to the basic principles of infiltration which is to touch the filtration base as little as possible, so here it is simply a marketing gimmick to make you buy every time new cartridges, that's not terrible, I prefer a filter with a few sockets of 6 ceramic thorax, you keep your filtration instead of a sponge and you rinse it and at the end when you see that it is really disgusting but in aquarium water to make sure you kill as little bacteria as possible, and so you have a constant biological balance every time you change your filter media.

What kind of heater to put in an aquarium?

The fourth big mistake I would say most beginners make is when they start to realize that aquariums cost a little more than they originally planned, they try to pay for certain items a slightly cheaper; is one of the elements on which we can make big savings, it is the heating.

Since a heater costs around thirty euros/dollars, while you can buy slightly less reliable brands at half the price, most people go for the small heaters, but you have to tell yourself that is that it is an initial investment, perhaps a little more important, we are talking about the simple one at 15 to 30 euros/dollars, but the problem is that when the thermostat no longer works too well, the immersion heater no longer detects the tank temperature, so it heats infinitely, and it kills your fish, and most of the time when that happens it's bad luck your fish costs more than fifteen euros / dollars.

In the end you still lost money, I advise you to invest in a good heater.

How to choose the right activated carbon for aquarium?

Another rookie mistake that I see quite often though is people who think they constantly have to put activated carbon in their filters, carbon is good, all the chemicals will be absorbed. who has chlorine in your water... it will also suck up all the dyes and odors.

It is true that visually you will have a prettier aquarium, and it will be more crystalline, but most people still forget that once it has absorbed the activated carbon, it eventually relaxes, if the carbon is left on. active as a filtration mass indefinitely, over time it is useless and it makes you believe that you have done something useful, when you have not.

Generally even promise activated carbon is sacrificed in the place in the filter, this place could in particular be used to put more biological filtration history to decompose ammonia and nitrite.

Here are my friends the most common mistakes I can think of, do not hesitate to tell me if you can think of other fairly common mistakes for beginners in the comments.

I hope this article has taught you something at least.

See you soon
